ResearchCollab

ResearchCollab is a new way to write research papers and other scholarly documents. ResearchCollab provides a web-based editing and collaboration system, built especially for writers using the LATEX typesetting system. Just a few of the benefits of ResearchCollab are:

  • No more "e-mail tennis": Collaboration is transparently coordinated within our system, so there is no need to e-mail around document updates. This eliminates waits and prevents lost edits.
  • Involve everyone: It's easy for multiple co-authors to actually contribute to writing a paper or report, rather than sitting on the sidelines.
  • No software to install: We run all the document production software server-side, including TeX, LATEX and distiller programs.
  • Easy access: You always know where the latest version of the project is, to view, edit, or disseminate.
  • Universal access: Work from any computer with a standard web browser and internet connection.
  • Platform independence: Unlike other collaboration tools, you can use ResearchCollab on any platform — Solaris, Linux, Mac, or yes, even Windows! You can preview and edit entirely through our web-based interface, or work locally with your favorite editors.
  • Clean, convenient communication: Discussions are coupled with the project and document sections and are integrated with e-mail.
  • Intuitive, smart "diffs": Differences in document versions are illustrated clearly, without resorting to slow, unwieldy, distracting "edit recording".
  • CVS integration: Projects can be accessed via CVS, for advanced users.
  • Smart, simple bibliography handling: Integrate with EndNote and other systems by using the bibTeX format, instead of inflexible text exports of citations.
  • The Power and Elegance of LATEX: You've got better things to do than fiddle with clumsy, buggy GUI interfaces for document layouts and formatting — let LATEX do it for you. Write semantics, not presentation!

We are currently beta-testing ResearchCollab and anticipate opening very soon. If you'd like to help (and try the system out for free), drop us a note here.
